Tulum, Mexico
This month I had the great honour of tagging along with Arby & Tom and all their friends to Mexico to celebrate their marriage. It was quite the wild week of suntanning, swimming, and plenty of dancing at a resort near Tulum.
I didn't know many of the other guests well going into the trip, but it was a really great group and I came away with some great new friends. A few of them were at TWU with me for undergrad, and others worked in higher ed recruitment with Arby, so we all had a ton in common.
Before this week, I had never been to an all-inclusive resort. It was a very strange experience for me. I'm not accustomed to sitting still and relaxing for days on end, but there was something really special about having a large party to relax alongside with bottomless piña coladas.
The acutal wedding took place half way through the week. I've never been to a wedding quite like it. The ceremony was in the evening on the beach followed by a pool-side reception where we all danced late into the night.
It was a huge honour to be shooting this wedding. Arby & Tom looked stunning and the setting was unbelievable. I shared a sample of the official images on my fb page.
Once the wedding craziness was over, we got a chance to get out of the resort and explore the surrounding area. This included a tour of the Chichén Itzá Mayan ruins and repelling into the under ground waters of a Cenote.
On our last full day, we took the bus into the town of Tulum. It was a really beautiful place with its own ancient Mayan temple site, boutique hotels and shops, and the most spectacular beach I've ever encountered.
We wandered and shopped and drank 2-for-1 margaritas, then made our way down to the beach to play in the waves. If you ever find yourself in this lovely little town, I recommend a fresh pressed juice at De Lielo and fish tacos at Mezzanine. It was the perfect day.
So many great memories were made on this trip! I think Arby & Tom picked the best way to gather all their friends in one place for their wedding and I feel extremely blessed to have had the opportunity to be part of it all!
