Siesta Key

I finally got to use some of my vacation time and go on a real holiday! I joined Chelsea and her family on the tail end of their annual beachside vacation to the white sand beaches of the Siesta Key in Sarasota, Florida.

Growing up, my family never went on tropical vacations. Instead we would visit museums and art galleries around Europe and North America. This is now my second beach vacation (last year I went to Oahu) and I'm still trying to get used to the concept of doing absolutely nothing for an extended period of time.

There are signs everywhere in the area that claim Siesta Key to have the best beaches in the USA. I don't doubt it. The ocean was clear and warm and the sand was bright white and as soft as flour. We spent every morning and afternoon lounging in the sun and swimming in the ocean and the evenings watching the incredible sunsets.

Check out that pink sky! And then on the other side a storm was rolling in with an impressive lightening show. It was very dramatic and beautiful.
